Tea with the Mayor

Recently, our Secretary, Sue Shepherd was invited to tea in the Mayor’s Parlour, with the Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Pete West. This was in recognition of her wonderful volunteering work in
Preston, with the Friends of Preston Park, the Friends of St. Peter’s Church, and the Walled Garden volunteer group at Preston Manor. Congratulations, Sue. We know how much time and effort you put into all these groups.

Our bid for Heritage Lottery funds
After many months of meetings, research and deliberation, your committee has just submitted the application form for our Heritage Lottery Grant bid, and now we have some anxious weeks of waiting for the result. We would like to thank our consultant, Esther Gill, who gave us such wonderful help and advice, and without whom we would probably still be floundering (unless you have seen these forms, you will have no idea ...).

Bell ringing
If you would like to hear the bells rung properly, come on Thursday 4th May at 2.30pm, when a group of touring bell ringers from different parts of the country will ring for about half an hour.

Annual Grand Sale
Our Annual Grand Sale will be held on Saturday, May 27th, from 11am-4pm, As usual, we would welcome your help and donations.

We need you to help us raise money for ongoing projects, by donating the following:
Books: in good condition, please

Cakes: please make one if you can, as they are always popular
Plants: either young plants to grow on, or house plants you no longer need
Bric-a-brac: unwanted items, but not jumble, please
Craft: good home-made items

Please bring donations to the church the day before, although books can be left in the tower at any time, and cakes should be brought on the Saturday morning.

There will also be a chance to ring the bells, and refreshments will be on sale.

Preston Village Day

Preston Village Day, on Saturday 24th June, will be a separate event to our sale this year, and will incorporate the annual Midsummer Tea Party.

Other groups in Preston will be taking part in the ‘Day’, as they did last year.

Hopefully, our attractions will include a slide show of the history of St. Peter’s and Preston Village; a guided walk around the ancient parts of Preston Village; brass-rubbing; bell ringing; and as ever, cakes and helpers will be needed.

Please put these dates in your diary now!

If we are fortunate enough to be awarded a HLF grant, of course there will be many more connected events being run at St. Peter’s this year.

We will keep you informed.
