Celebration Day

Two weeks ago, we held a lunch party to celebrate the completion of the work in the chancel. The event was attended by the Mayor and the deputy-mayor of Brighton and Hove, by the Chief Executive of The Churches Conservation Trust, by representatives of Hare & Humphreys, the firm which had carried out the work, and by many volunteers who had helped in various ways. It was an occasion for us to thank supporters, and for people with many different responsibilities and interests in St. Peter’s, to come together and have the opportunity to meet and talk. It was a very happy and worthwhile occasion. But 2018 is not over yet ...

Service of Evensong, 21st October

Our annual service of Evensong, (which had to be postponed due to the chancel work), will be on Sunday 21st October at 6pm, when the Bishop of Lewes will give the address and bless the newly conserved chancel. Please bring a torch with you, as it will be dark outside, and the pathway to the church is uneven..

AGM, 28th October

Our AGM will start at 2.30pm. There will be a short business meeting, followed by a talk from Paula Wrightson, Venue Officer at Preston Manor, about the Manor and its connections with St. Peter’s.

Armistice Day, 11th November

To mark 100 years since the end of WW1, we will be joining in with the national bell-ringing initiative. We will gather at St. Peter’s at 10.30am to toll one bell and read out the names of the 49 men from Preston Parish who died. The two minutes’ silence will be at 11am, and then we are asked to ‘ring the bells joyously’, as happened spontaneously on November 11th 1918 all over the country. We will do our best! You are welcome to attend this short commemoration event.

Carol Concert, 13th December

Join us for our ever-popular annual Carol Concert, by Sussex Harmony, a West Gallery Quire. Come at 7pm for mince pies and mulled wine, and wear warm clothes. A torch is recommended for safety on the pathway.

Xmas Wreath Making, 15th December

Come and make your own Christmas wreaths using greenery sourced by our Park Ranger from Preston Park. Each wreath costs £5 but all materials and tuition are provided. Refreshments available. Hosted jointly by the Friends of Preston Park and the Friends of St Peter’s. From 11am to 2pm in the church.
